When you first decide to improve your English, you have made the biggest step.
The next steps should be small. In English, we have a saying:
“Don’t run before you can walk.”
So, if you are new to learning English, or returning after a break, go slowly.
Here are some tips for those first small steps:
- Try to practice one day a week for the first month.
- Spend no longer than 20 minutes practising.
- Keep an informal diary about your learning. Record what you did, when and for how long.
- Write down any new words you come across. You can practice these later on.
- Give yourself a treat after your weekly 20 minute practice.
- Take a rest before the small steps turn into big ones!
